Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving penetration of the skin with tiny, hair-thin disposable needles to stimulate certain points in the body to trigger the body's natural healing response. It is a traditional Chinese medical technique which has been practised in China for more than 4000 years. The operating philosophy of traditional acupuncture is that disease is caused by interrupted energy (Qi) flow at specific points on the body's surface. Acupuncture thus involves the insertion of a needle(s) at the affected point(s) in order to stimulate Qi flow, harmonize energy flow and correct imbalances in the flow of Qi in the body .Qi is somewhat equivalent to the western idea of vitality or life-force which is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians. When disease or dysfunction occurs, acupuncturists know which points to manipulate to restore the natural flow of energy(Qi) and to restore balance to the body's systems. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture stimulates the body's natural healing abilities, reducing inflammation, and promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Are There Any Adverse Effects To Treatment?

One of the most striking aspects of acupuncture is the almost complete absence of adverse effects and complications from its use as long as it is performed by experienced acupuncturists. Most patients feel that acupuncture treatment is very relaxing and causes minimal discomfort. In our clinic only sterile one-time-use disposable needles are to be used, preventing any risk of infection. In particular, there is no risk of transmission of AIDS or hepatitis viruses when sterile disposable needles are used.

Does It Hurt?

Most patients with acupuncture treatment feel only minimal discomfort as the tiny, hair-thin needles are inserted; some feel no pain at all. Once the needles are in place, there should be no significant discomfort
