Massage DIY

Updated: May 7, 2020

Sometimes it is not possible to get a treatment from your Registered Massage Therapist. Holidays or social isolation due to the viral epidemic. Also an RMT can be fully booked or unavailable. There is always an option to get some help at home.

Simple things like a rubber ball and splash pad noodle can help a lot. Add an old clean sock and a pair of scissors and we are fully equipped for the home therapy. Both a Rubber Ball and a Splash Pad Noodle are available in Dollar stores ( open during COVID-19 epidemic!)

I recommend checking a kids toy section and a pet aisle. Rubber balls of different density and size that is what we are looking for.

Stress ball with the smile , splash pad noodle, rubber balls (from pet aisle) and deep tissue massage ball. Everything has been found in local Dollar store.

Back muscles soreness. Release of sore muscles and painful points.

Also known as Ball and Sock self release.

All we need is just a clean sock and a stress ball to start with. If someone has a set of rubber balls please choose the softest one to begin with.

Technique:

Put the ball inside the sock and hang it freely over the shoulder. Come close to the wall (back to the wall) and squeeze the ball between your back and the wall. Find the sore point in the back muscle and push and roll the ball against the wall.

If it is painful or are feeling a muscle cramp, please stop the exercise and take a step forward. Let sock with the ball fall on the floor or hanging along the back without touching the wall.

Side view.

Sometimes we see or hear recommendations to roll on a lacrosse ball or a rubber ball while laying on the ground.

I DO NOT ! recommend this at all. Too many people had their back " locked" in this way. Too much pressure on a muscle from the ball and inability to move away from the ball make a problem worse.
